We are hobby farmers, looking to make the land we live on healthier and the food that nourishes our bodies better. We thought we would share what we have learned along the way - maybe our misadventures will save you time and/or money.

The Beginning
Before my husband retired from the military, we found the property we now live on. It had been abandoned and the driveway rivaled the Little Grand Canyon. Needless to say, the house and property was a hot mess. All we saw was potential. When most would have run from this place, we marched forward, knowing it would be amazing.
It took a month to just get a bathroom together, the kitchen functioning, and floors in the bedrooms. Despite the construction zone and stuff everywhere, we moved in and continued to work tirelessly for the next year to make the house a home. There are still projects, but those will be finished some day.
Two years after we moved in we finally got chickens. Little did I know they really are the gateway farm animal. For most of the last 25 years my work has involved conducting research. That was handy while we navigated the experience of raising chickens. This skill has also resulted in a great deal of learning about everything from land clearing, building fences, and regenerative farming.
Below are a couple of videos we found to be informative. Not only do the videos shed light on regulatory guidance that is hurting local farmers, but they touch on regenerative farming. Maybe one day we will also be able to avoid the grocery stores for most food items and have a surplus.
